The chakra system describes 7 major active energy centers along the spine.

Individually, each chakra reflects an aspect of our consciousness and how that is functioning in the moment.  As a system, they reflect who we are at this point on our evolutionary path and facilitate how we respond to life as it engages with us.

The chakra system is a map that can help us understand ourselves better as we seek personal growth and a greater sense of internal balance.

As an active and responsive energy center, a chakra can be anywhere along the spectrum from "open" to "closed," and may be described as "in balance" or at various stages of imbalance, such as "overactive" or "underactive." A chakra is a spinning vortex of energy that works within a system; ideally, each chakra is open and actively spinning in harmony and balance with the other major chakras. Imbalance in a chakra translates to experiencing a sense of imbalance mentally, emotionally and/or physically, and sustained imbalance over time can correspond with issues of physical dis-ease or illness. As we learn to orient ourselves differently through personal growth and healing processes, we can return to the state of balance and bliss that is our birthright.

Each chakra energetically vibrates at a specific frequency. This frequency corresponds with a level of human consciousness that can be described in physical (including light/color/sound), mental, emotional and spiritual terms.
